Connect the dot's.......

As my first post for this blog I had lots of fantastic ideas about what type of information I wanted to provide, how I wanted it to look and more importantly how I wanted to introduce my brand. However, real life got in the way of my plans and that post would have to “exit stage left” and be parked for now. The universe had other ideas! Drumroll…………..

welcome chickenpox! Yes, the dreaded pox. I didn’t pick up on it straight away. I noticed my 2 year old had a couple of spots, which I didn’t really pay much attention to (not consciously anyway). I simply, added a bit more cream to the affected area, that kind of thing. Hoping it would somehow disappear. No, not to be. By the end of that day 2 had turned into 10, turned into 20. You get the drift. , which is when the thought crossed my mind ‘CHICKENPOX’. That was it, I was googling every symptom under the sun, every image, every remedy. I was obsessed! How could this happen? Isn’t she too young? I don’t even know anyone with this virus! Her poor skin.. At this point I had to stop and take a breath. I really was overreacting. Let’s put things into perspective. She’s 2, she goes to nursery, she’s around children all day. It was always going to happen, and like I’ve heard so many times over this period “it’s better that she gets it now, at least it will be out of the way”. (Although, I’m not sure this statement helped at the time lol). I needed to be calm and collective for her. My poor little darling was slowly filling up with spots and looked like she had ants in her pants from all the itching. I then realised I could help alleviate some of the irritation with my products. I really don’t know why it took so long for the penny to drop, to connect the dots ….(no pun intended)….. Oat Bags ! I gave her a lukewarm oat bath adding our BALANCE bath milk. Honestly, you wouldn’t have thought this was the same child 5 minutes prior. I squeezed the oats into the warm water and all over her body, including her head. I got her involved and let her help, which she loved. This really seemed to alleviate the irritation and reduce the redness and inflammation. You could really see the immediate difference in her skin when she got out of the bath. It was so much calmer and as an added bonus very smooth and less red. The calamine lotion was then dabbed on all the spots directly after to also reduce the itching. She spent most of the days looking like a naked Dalmatian! I did this at every bath, and believe this really contributed to a quicker, more manageable recovery. Luckily, despite the irritation she was in good spirits and did not have a fever or some of the more severe symptoms that may be attributed to this virus. Despite the sleepiness nights, the panda eyes and exhaustion trying to stop her from scratching or the long days of being isolated at home with a poorly child, we got through it! It’s at times like these when you are on the other side, that you really appreciate how amazing our body is and what it does to fight a virus/disease, illness or ailment. WE SALUTE YOU!!!! I’m so pleased that I was able to alleviate some of her symptoms with our natural products and contribute to the healing process. I know I’ve got plenty more to come but at least I can tick this one off the list. 😃 Our oat bags and bath milk really are special!
